Prescriptions
When registering with Oze-Pharmacy, you will be required to provide important general
health information. Our pharmacists use the information you provide to ensure prescriptions
you order, are safe and likely to achieve a positive health outcome. It is essential that the
appropriate information is provided in full.
The existing Health Insurance Scheme determines how much you pay for your prescription.
Each prescription item can have up to three different prices. The price that you will pay
depends on your entitlement to a reduced prescription price.
National Health Scheme Prescriptions
The Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme (PBS) subsidy for medicines and the prices paid as
patient contributions are set by the government.
Oze-Pharmacy strives to provide affordable health, a large proportion of prescription
medicines are discounted by us, for further information contact one of our pharmacists.
Concession Card Holders
-Pensioners
-Health Care
-Veteran Affairs
-Safety Net
Concession cardholders pay $5.30 for the majority of NHS Prescriptions. An additional charge
may apply to some medicines or medicine brands due to a government surcharge for
expensive brands, or medicines within a therapeutic group. By choosing a less expensive
equivalent medicine this additional charge may not apply, if in doubt ask your
OZePHARMACIST how to save on your prescription.
Safety Net Entitlement (SNE) cardholders
Holders of an SNE Entitlement card will not have to pay for PBS prescription medicines.
(unless a surcharge applies).
Private Prescriptions
Private Prescription medicines are not covered by the PBS, nor subsidised by the National
Health Scheme. You may often find that certain PBS prescriptions are cheaper if you choose
to purchase them privately at our discounted prices. You will not be eligible for a Prescription
record Form (PRF) sticker, which contributes to your safety net card. Many private
prescriptions can also be claimed through Private Health Funds, a receipt will be provided.
Safety Net
To aid people who may require a large number of medicines throughout the year, the
government provides a Safety Net Scheme for PBS medicines. Once the threshold is reached
an appropriate Safety Net card will be issued to you. The threshold applies to each calendar
year, so if you have received a Safety Net card it remains valid until the end of the year. At
Oze-Pharmacy we keep a record of NHS prescriptions dispensed by us, however as
pharmacies are not linked you will need to keep a record of any other prescriptions dispensed
at other pharmacies. PRF stickers will be sent with each PBS prescription, each sticker
indicates the amount that contributes to your Safety Net. The Safety Net applies to your
family, which includes:
Spouse or de-facto dependant;
Full-time students under 25;
Children under 16 who are in your care.
The Safety Net thresholds for 2009 are:
Concession Card Holders $318.00 (equivalent to 60 NHS prescriptions)
General Patients $1264.90
Prescription Pricing Codes
Some prescription items require additional authorisation to be subsidised. These are
indicated by the R / A codes. Where an authority prescription has not been obtained the
prescription is not available at a PBS / RPBS subsidy, and the private prescription price will
apply.
R Items available as a concession under the RPBS (Repat) Scheme only
A Items available as a concession only on Authority prescription
